SEBASTIAN HAQUIN
Sebastian is an Australian painter of French-Australian heritage based in Rotterdam. His work is rooted in observational, site-specific drawing and painting, driven by a commitment to the seen and the felt experience, as well as a deep curiosity about the world around him. The study of light, colour, and volume informs the theatrical, symbolic, and plastic qualities of the work.
Observation serves as a point of departure for exploring the reality that lies beneath the surface and materiality of things, delving into fantasy and channelling myth from the places, people, and memories that make up the fabric of everyday life.
Through his work, he attempts to process the historical and personal conditions of his existence in the same way that waking experience becomes a dream, exploring the desires that such dreams might contain.
